One climate, many kinds of building

What ties these towns together is the weather: a Zone 3B hot-dry climate with long triple-digit summers and constant wind that drives hot air through anything that isn’t sealed. What varies is the building — older in-town homes with attic insulation far below today’s standards, newer builds on the edges, pier-and-beam houses with wind blowing under the floor, and the metal shops, barns, and barndominiums that fill the surrounding country. The climate problem is the same, and so is the family of fixes: seal the envelope with foam so the heat and wind stop winning. We read each building rather than applying a template.

What we check on every job

Wherever the town, an assessment checks the same handful of things, because they decide the design: where the building is leaking air; how much insulation it has and whether the wind is defeating it; whether there’s a moisture concern — a metal shell or a crawl space; what old insulation, if any, has to come out; and which foam fits the space and the budget. The town on the sign changes; the climate and the questions don’t.
